Located at the interface of the Canalside District, and Buffalo’s Central Business District, this project involved the adaptive re-use of the former State Offices Building for a 102 bed hotel. The hotel occupied 4 of the 8 renovated floors and approximately half of the 199,000 sq. ft. Along with the 102 beds, the Hotel also offers all of the amenities that may be needed by their business traveler clientele. Of the amenities offered, the pool is the highlight that sets this Courtyard Marriott apart from the rest.
The pool and spa were a custom design to make for a warm and dynamic space that wouldn’t feel like it was in the basement of an office building. The floor to floor height in the space was lower than ideal, but through the use of a barrel vaulted tensile membrane ceiling the space is able to open up above the pool and spa. The tensile ceiling helps to soften the space and reduce the reverberation of noise. Also, the use of color changing LED light fixtures over the pool, spa and around the accent walls makes the space exciting and inviting. The remaining light fixtures warm the space with a natural daylight color rendition. Adjacent to and overlooking the Pool is the Exercise Room, linking the activities together.
